Rayleigh loves to sing. I mean L-O-V-E-S to sing. She sings all day long everyday. She sings lots of Bible songs, but she also makes up her own tunes and words. Some of the fav's this week:
One of our CD's we listen to in the car has a song she loves to partner with me on. She makes me sing "my" part, and won't let me sing "her" part. The part of the song that she makes us split goes like this, and we'll sing it over and over and over.....
Val-God is sooooo big.
Ray- And, He's soooo small.
Val- He's big enough to rule the universe,
Ray-Small enough to live in my heart.
Another CD we have (thanks to Jason - it was actually a gift to me, funny as it sounds) is a Kids Pop CD. It has a green cover, so R will ask, "Mommy, can we listen to the green one?" when she wants to listen to it. She requested "the banana one" the other day, and I was thoroughly confused. "Banana one? I don't know what you're talking about," I answered, "How does it go?" She answered, "It goes 'Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Banana.'" I instantly knew she was talking about Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" which goes, "Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, na-na-na." I can totally see where she got 'banana.' So, we now sing Beyonce's song with, "Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, banana."
I'm going to make it my goal this week to write down at least one of the songs she makes up, and I'll try to share it another time.
The last thing I wanted to leave you with is a conversation she and I had this afternoon. I left her to take a nap in her room, and told her not to get out of her bed for any reason because she needed to take a nap. After 3-4 minutes I went to go check on her, and I found her playing with her stuffed animals on the floor of her room. She got in trouble and went back to bed crying. After a minute or so she started crying for me, so I went to check on her and comfort her. Here was our conversation:
V- Do you need something, Ray?
R- (Sniff. Sniff.) You.
V- (I went and sat on her bed to comfort her) You really need to go to sleep, Sweetie. I can tell you are tired.
R- But I can't.
V- Well, I need for you try.
R- (after thinking a minute) I don't know how.
V- (showing her how) Well, you start by getting real still.....Then, you close your eyes......And you listen to yourself breathe in and out, in and out......
R- Like you do?
V- Yes, like I do. That's how we let our bodies fall asleep.
R- I can't do it.
V- Sure you can. You just need to practice.
R- Can you practice with me? (and she pats the bed next to her)
V- (thinking she looks too adorable to say no to) Sure, I'll lay down with you.
She got me all cuddled up and shared her blanket with me and then stroked my face and hair for a while before she got still and fell asleep. Moments like these are so precious to me. They make me realize what a gift it is to be a mother and to have a daughter that loves you and wants to be with you. There won't always be a day when she'll want to cuddle and nap with me, so I'm taking advantage of it while I can.
I'll leave you with this dress-up picture. Don't you love her style?
